The NFL and Apple Music have officially announced that Usher will be the halftime performer for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas this February.
Usher’s performance will mark the first Super Bowl halftime show that the city of Las Vegas has ever seen. This year’s performance will follow up that of Rihanna’s iconic halftime show last year. Usher will have some large shoes to fill as Rihanna gained more viewers than the Super Bowl game itself and also thrilled the audience by announcing a second pregnancy.
NFL’s Head of Music, Seth Dudowsky spoke to their choice for Super Bowl LVIII performers. He told the world: “Usher is an icon whose music has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape throughout his career, we couldn’t be more excited to have him headline this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. We look forward to working with Usher, Roc Nation and Apple Music to bring fans another Halftime Show for the history books.”
When the announcement was made, Usher said: “It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen before. Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
Usher was recently interviewed by Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to discuss the exciting news. During this interview, Usher shared that on top of his upcoming Super Bowl performance, he is also officially working on his ninth studio album. ‘Coming Home’ will be a follow-up album to ‘Hard II Love,’ released in 2016.
‘Coming Home’ is set to release the same day as his Super Bowl Halftime performance, on Sunday February 11th 2024.
