The CuRB Show – Inside Florida’s Skate Revival with Dustin Amato

Florida has always been a wild card in the skate world — humid, raw, and unapologetically authentic. Between backyard ramps, alligator pits, and parking lot sessions under palm trees, the Sunshine State has bred its own brand of skateboarding — gritty, loyal, and endlessly creative. At the center of this energy is Dustin Amato, founder of The CuRB Show — Florida’s answer to a skate trade show that’s part industry event, part DIY jam, and part cultural celebration.

With $10K on the line, a mix of legendary builders like Jay Ramps and GOAT Ramp coming together for the first time, and a Vegas expansion already on the horizon, CuRB is more than just an event — it’s a movement to bring skateboarding back to the hands of the locals, the shops, and the riders who built the scene from the ground up.

We caught up with Dustin to talk about uniting Florida’s skate icons, the state’s underground energy, and why the future of skateboarding still belongs to the shop decks and the streets.

FRANK151: This is the first time the GOAT Ramp and a Jay Ramps custom street course are coming together — what made you want to unite these two Florida skate icons under one roof?

Dustin Amato: We wanted to work with locals, and we knew we wanted to build something unique. Jay Ranft was slammed — he was literally pouring a concrete park in the Northwest — but he found time to fit us in. The GOAT Ramp is just a perfect mini ramp; it looks super fun to skate and they always rally a great crew of rippers. It was too hard to pick just one, so we figured — why not both? Ayyye!

FRANK151: The invite’s calling out the best shops in the Southeast — what kind of energy or attitude are you hoping they bring to the contest?

Dustin Amato: So far the energy and response have been amazing. The shops have been signing up their riders, and honestly, Florida has a lot of great independent shops that really support the local scene. The talent level here is off the charts. We want to shine a light on those shops and riders because independent shops are the main force in the industry. Big shout out to Tampa Am’s Clash of the Crews for building up these rivalries — we’re just stoked to toss a little gas on that fire.

FRANK151: $10K on the line, Vegas on the horizon — what’s the bigger goal here: the cash, the clout, or the culture?

Dustin Amato: Being able to give cash to skaters for skateboarding is always rewarding, but we’ve never been about the clout. We’re here for the shops — not the props. Skate shops built the culture; they’re the decision makers who should steer the industry into the future.

Shops decide which brands to bring in and help curate the local culture in their communities. The smaller and local brands are often overlooked, so our Vegas event is all about highlighting up-and-coming brands, artists, and the Shop Deck Showdown. We’re even putting together a coffee table book featuring shop decks and the stories behind them — because the shop deck, in my opinion, is one of the most overlooked parts of the industry.

Submit your shop decks at www.CuRB.show, and make your plans to join us in Vegas next year — May 6–9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Custom-built course, full half pipe… it’s going to be heavy.

FRANK151: Can you give us a hint of who’s coming through or what kind of vibe they’re bringing?

Dustin Amato: Dave Duncan’s on the mic, Chaz Ortiz will be in the building, and the teams are stacking up — Compound Boardshop, Galactic G Skateshop, Island Water Sports, Westside Skateshop, Funks, Modern, and Central all the way from the Midwest. Some heavy contest hitters are flying in for the EDP Energy Open too.

FRANK151: Florida’s always had its own skate flavor — humid, gritty, and a little reckless. How do you think this event represents that spirit?

Dustin Amato: Luckily it’s November and we’re indoors at the Convention Center — so not too humid this time (laughs). Florida’s got some of the best skaters in the world and the merch to back it up. We’re hyped to see what goes down on the GOAT Ramp, the Jay Ramps SmaK’d custom-built street feature (which we’re unveiling at the show), and the JEEP JAM, with custom welded rails on the sides and a box over the windshield 🤪. It’s about to be insane.

FRANK151: Sounds like Florida’s about to remind everyone where the heart of skateboarding still beats.

Dustin Amato: Hell yeah — that’s the goal.
