This Tuesday, rapper Slowthai appeared in court to face his two charges of rape from an assault in September of 2021 in Oxford.
Slowthai, whose legal name is Tyron Frampton, only had to confirm his personal information in court on Tuesday, no major proceedings have begun yet. The prosecution told reporters that the case will go to the Crown Court to be tried by a judge and jury as opposed to a magistrate. The Crown Court in the UK is the highest court in place for severe crimes.
Frampton was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in front of the Crown Court sometime next month. The 28-year-old rapper is accused of raping a woman in 2021 and has been charged with oral and vaginal penetration without consent. He has so far denied all allegations related to the assault on his social media accounts.
Despite the court case having yet to be tried, Slowthai has already been removed from multiple festival lineups in the UK, including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, and Parklife. Although there are more festival gigs lined up for Slowthai, it wouldn’t be a long stretch for the other festivals to follow in the footsteps of those who removed him.
Only time will tell how many gigs Slowthai will lose in the wake of these allegations. No specific court date has been released to the public yet, the trial is set to begin in June.
