Sage Armstrong Dirtybird Track Proves He Doesn’t Need A Lot —Just the Right Crew

Sage Armstrong is back with a Dirtybird drop that’s cheeky, low-end heavy, and built for the party. “I Don’t Want A Lot,” out on April 11, teams Sage with Basura Boyz and Gene Farris, delivering a bouncy house track with enough swagger to power a warehouse party and enough weird to fit right in at Dirtybird Campout.

Gene’s vocals ride the groove like a charm, while Sage and the Basura Boyz inject their signature funk into the folds. It’s got that sweaty, percussive strut that’s made Dirtybird a cultural movement over the past 20 years.

The Orlando-born, L.A.-based Sage Armstrong has been carving his own space since debuting with Dirtybird in 2015. Whether it’s through his own imprint Dumb Fat Records, collaborations with heavyweights like Matroda, CID, and Will Clarke, or his distinct style that bleeds into fashion, vocals, and DJ sets—Sage is always pushing. Most recently, he threw down at the Denver stop of the label’s 20th Anniversary Tour, turning a cathedral into a rave chapel.

His decade-deep grind has earned him respect across the scene — not just as a producer, but as a full-on culture driver. Whether it’s bass-heavy bangers or fashion-forward fits, Sage brings intention to everything he touches. With his genre-bending collabs, he’s keeping pace with the house scene.

If you could curate your own dream festival, who would be your top 3 headliners?
Playboi Carti, Cloonee & Jai Paul

Your latest track with Gene Farris and Basura Boyz hits hard — how did this link-up come together?
Me n Nick (Basura Boyz) been cooking a lot of ideas & he was also working a bunch with Gene Farris and it just naturally came together.

When three minds come together on one track, what does that process actually look like?
Every collab/situation can be different but on this one I sparked the initial idea and passed it over to Basura Boyz & he got Gene Farris on vocals & they wrapped the rest of it up.

You recently played the Denver stop of Dirtybird’s 20-year anniversary tour — what was the vibe like?
Yes! I had the funnest time. I’ve never got to DJ in an old cathedral before. That venue is one of the coolest places I’ve ever got to perform. Also loved the Dirtybird mascot coming out on stage and dancing with me while I was performing one of my tracks <3

You’ve worked with names like Matroda and CID — who’s still on your collab wishlist?
Chris Lake, Cloonee, Claude VonStroke. Outside of the genre? Playboi Carti.

Outside of the house and bass world, what’s been inspiring you lately?
I can appreciate every kind of music for the most part. I listen to a lot of underground rap music and I like chill vibey stuff like Toro Y Moi and Jai Paul as well.

Who are your top 3 all-time designers? Whose style do you admire?
Demna Gvasalia, Rick Owens & Shayne Oliver.

What’s next for Sage Armstrong in 2025?
Really excited to be back on the road. I’ve been cooking up a bunch in the studio. Just going to be locked in making music all year <3
