Back in 2009 NIKE did something the world of BMX has never see before!… They built one of the most unique skate parks in an abandoned 1800’s train tunnel…. And called it…. The Nike 6.0 Tunnle Jam.. After a few years of use with local riders the park was left completely abandoned…
The project was a collaboration between Nike 6.0 and Rich Holland (Floda31), built in partnership with Piers from 9c Rampsand Urb-Orbis The build was a three-month project featuring a series of ramps designed specifically for BMX riding, transforming a 100-meter section of the tunnel. Construction involved laying down concrete/tarmac and building wooden ramps (quarter pipes, over-vert walls) tailored to the narrow, curved constraints of the tunnel The design team included BMXers to ensure the, resulting in a world-class, technically demanding course featuring a “pool” style setup. The project won the prestigious global Nike award for the best project.
The competition was a private, invitation-only event featuring top BMX riders including Baz Keep, who was voted best rider, Dan Lacey, who won best line and also Jason Phelan who won best trick! Following the event, Nike donated the entire park to the BMX community to manage, rather than dismantling it.
After a few years local BMX Riders reported issues with water running through the tunnel after heavy rainfalls.. eventually this caused catastrophic damage to the ramps… sadly there were deemed unsafe and the site was abandoned……… Come and Explore one of the most iconic BMX skate parks ever constructed!
