Cheez-It found a new way to get that cheese by partnering with Pandora to release their limited-edition “Aged by Audio” crackers on May 26 at 12 p.m. ET to produce the first sonically-aged snack.
It all started with a study by Käsehaus K3, a Swiss cheesemaker, and students at the Sound Arts HKB school in Switzerland. They found that Hip Hop tempo and sonic frequencies enhanced the taste and smell of cheeses during the cheese-making process. Apparently, a culinary jury determined that cheese aged to A Tribe Called Quest’s “Jazz (We’ve Got)” had a stronger smell and taste than cheese samples aged to “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin or “The Magic Flute” by Mozart.
Cheez-It is always looking for new ways to bring the world its tasty snacks, so coming across this obscure study was a natural opportunity for a brand that prides itself on using 100% real cheese.
And, yes, we can listen to the tracks that the crackers listened to as they aged over a six-month period in a secret location. Curated by Pandora’s music experts, the Aged by Audio mixtape will become available online via CheezItHQ.com and Pandora.com and on the Pandora app on May 26.
This collaboration also includes partnering with SiriusXM radio host Sway Calloway to help launch his new hip-hop YouTube series, “Living Legends.” The series will consist of interviews with industry trailblazers on hip-hop’s impact worldwide. It launches on YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter on May 26.
Cheez-It will begin selling limited-edition Cheez-It x Pandora Aged by Audio boxes on CheezItHQ.com on May 26 at 12 p.m. EDT. They are also offering a free 90-day Pandora Premium trial offer to people who buy the snack. Free shipping is available to snackers if they add on Cheez-It merch to the order as well.
