This past Friday, the band The Script announced that their co-founder and guitarist, Mark Sheehan, has passed away after a “brief illness” at age 46. According to social media, the musician had passed away while hospitalized.
For now, not much information has been released as to what illness Sheehan faced. The family and band have both asked for privacy during these difficult times of grief. The members of The Script have always described themselves as a “band of brothers,” so there is no doubt the toll this loss has taken on those who loved Sheehan.
During his career, The Script had number 1 albums in the UK and Ireland, including their debut album. They had more Number 1 albums in the UK than any other Irish musician or group from 2010 to 2019. The group is supposed to be touring in the UK and Europe with Pink this summer.
The tragic news of Sheehan’s passing has sparked quite the outpouring of support and kind words from other musicians and celebrities. Mikey Graham, former singer in Irish boy band Boyzone, unfortunately experienced a similar tragedy in 2009 when his bandmate Stephen Gately passed away suddenly. He shared his condolences over the weekend: “I can and do understand the pain Glen & Danny are feeling right now and also their families. All my love and support I offer you at this time. You gave the world your music, it will carry you home, Mark.”
