JAY-Z’s Roc Nation has officially (finally) launched a division into esports. The gaming industry has been exploding in popularity, and this move is sure to expand the reach of both Roc Nation and its rising gamers.
According to AdAge:
The talent agency is answering a call from athletes and brands to be a part of the burgeoning industry. The world of traditional sports continues to merge with the growing esports space. Athletes are increasingly picking up controllers and spending hours playing video games to grow their personal brands.
Roc Nation’s first esports signing actually happened in October 2019. They signed FIFA gamer Mosaad ‘Msdossary’ Al-Dossary to their sports management division, almost 2 years before this new launch.
This news also comes days after JAY-Z announced that he’s joined Fanatics in a “bid to get into the mobile sports betting business in New York as the state opens its lucrative market.” He will also be serving as Vice Chair on Fanatics Betting & Gaming’s new BOD.
We’re glad to see that JAY-Z sees what we saw 7 months ago. Great minds think alike.
