While gearing up for Virgil’s first museum exhibition entitled “Figures of Speech” at MCA Chicago, the designer has linked up with NikeLab to launch something special titled the “Re-Creation” center.
Nike is describing this as a “cultural hub” that will cater to Abloh’s fans by offering mentorship opportunities and hands-on workshops in collaboration with “hand-picked partners, ranging from graphic designers to photographers.” The Re-Creation center will be a two month experience and will offer exclusive drops, “giveback programs” and panel discussions hosted by local creators selected by Abloh himself.
Confirmed mentors include Chuck Anderson, Paul Octavious, Alyx Harch, Thomas Kelley and Carrie Norman and Ann Lui and Craig Reschke. They will be speaking on subjects ranging from brand identity to fabric design, with an emphasis on each creative’s area of expertise.
Also highlighted by the space is Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe initiative, which transforms worn-out athletic shoes into Nike Grind.
