Woodstock 50 is cancelled…or is it?
The event’s organizer Dentsu Aegis Network, says that Woodstock 50 is canceled but a spokesperson for the festival has denied this by stating, “Woodstock 50 vehemently denies the festival’s cancellation and legal remedy will (be) sought”
Dentsu Aegis Network released the following statement to Billboard:
“It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival. But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees.”
Woodstock 50 was set to take place on Watkins Glen, New York on August 16-18 with ticket sales beginning in April but that deadline was missed. Along with financing and permit issues, the vent organizers have a growing concern for that the Watkins Glen International speedway will not be able accommodate the estimated 100,000-person festival.
Some of the event headliners included JAY-Z, Chance the Rapper, The Killers, Dead and Co and more. According to Billboard, Organizers also drew in several veteran musicians from the original 1969 Woodstock to perform, including John Fogerty, John Sebastian, David Crosby, Canned Heat and Country Joe McDonald.
At this time, it is being reported that more than $30 million has already been spent on the festivals lineup and most artists have already been paid!
