SZA Leads the Charge: Dominates Grammy Noms

Coming off her win last year for Album of the Year, SZA is back to lead the charge again with 9 Grammy nominations.

The full list of nominees was released just a few days ago, showing a heavily female dominated year for the Awards. Other top nominees include stars like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, Victoria Monét, Jon Batiste and Boygenius. All of the previous names along with SZA will be competing for Record of the Year.

SZA will also be in the running for Album of the Year yet again, alongside Swift, Rodrigo, Boygenius, Cyrus, Batiste, Lana Del Rey and Janelle Monae. SZA leads the group with 9 total nominations: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best R&B Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best Melodic Rap Performance.

Following SZA, Monét, Serban Ghenea and Phoebe Bridgers are all close behind with 7 nominations each. After that, a handful of stars are tied with 6 nominations each, including Batiste, Boygenius, Brandy Clark, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff.

It is obvious that we are seeing far less men on the list this year than usual, with only 3 out of 24 nominations for the top 3 awards going to men. 12 nominations came from the “Barbie” movie soundtrack, keeping with the theme of empowering women this Grammy season, with Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” getting 5 nominations on its own.

With only a few months to go before the awards, fans will have to wait and see which of their favorite artists will take home the golden gramophones. It seems like SZA fans don’t have much to worry about as she is bound to take home at least 1 of 9 awards.

The Grammy Awards are set to take place February 4th, 2024, broadcasting live on CBS.
