The NBA, WNBA, and USA Basketball recently announced their partnership with Kim Kardashian, as SKIMS becomes the official underwear of professional basketball.
This partnership will break new ground for SKIMS as they expand their customer base and generate further excitement and demand. It is not yet known whether or not SKIMS will be rolling out basketball themed pieces or how they will be incorporated into the NBA. In a statement SKIMS made about the partnership, they stated that they intent to appear at key points “in unexpected ways.”
This partnership comes on the heels of the new SKIMS menswear line, already including star athletes, like Nick Bosa, Neymar Jr. and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, in the campaign. So far the men’s line features three collections of essential pieces. Both co-founders of SKIMS, Kim Kardashian and Jens Greder, have made statements sharing their excitement for the new partnership and the opportunities it will bring.
Kim Kardashian said: “I am incredibly proud of SKIMS partnership with the NBA, as it is a reflection of SKIMS growing influence on culture. Together, SKIMS and the NBA will connect people of all backgrounds through fashion, sport, and talent, and I look forward to seeing the partnership thrive.”
Greder touched a bit more on what made the brand partner with the NBA, saying: “The NBA’s modern approach and significant impact on pop culture, entertainment, and fashion is unparalleled in sports. Out partnership marks a remarkable opportunity for SKIMS and the NBA to work together on what it means to engage the next-generation of consumers and fans through basketball.”
When announcing the partnership, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said: “SKIMS has quickly become one of our most culturally-influential brands. We look forward to bringing NBA fans and SKIMS users unique experiences, new offerings and premium products through our partnership.”
Only time will tell what exactly these “unique experiences, new offerings and premium products” will be, but many loyal SKIMS customers are waiting on the edges of their seats.
