SHREDFEST Celebrates 40 Years of Australian Snowboarding

From 28–30 August 2026, SHREDFEST will take over Jindabyne and Charlotte Pass for three days of films, riding, racing and stories celebrating 40 years of Australian snowboarding culture.

Snowboarding in Australia has never followed a clean path. It was built by surfers chasing winter, riders sleeping on floors, crews filming through storms and artists creating the graphics, films and events that gave the culture its identity.

Four decades later, SHREDFEST is bringing those generations back together.

Co-directed by Australian snowboard pioneers Tim “TV” Vlandis and Robin-John “RJ” Williams, the three-day event will move between Jindabyne Memorial Hall and Charlotte Pass from Friday, 28 August to Sunday, 30 August.

FRANK151 is proud to join SHREDFEST 2026 as its official media partner, documenting the people, stories and moments behind the milestone weekend.

The Godfather and A Nameless Force

Tim Vlandis, widely known as “TV” or “The Godfather” of Australian snowboarding, grew up surfing in Maroubra before discovering snowboarding in 1987.

His aggressive, no-fear approach to riding and competition quickly earned him a reputation. Over the years, Vlandis travelled the world riding extreme terrain across Alaska, Japan and France while establishing himself as one of the foundational figures of the Australian snowboard community.

Co-director RJ Williams was equally embedded in the early days of the culture.

Also known through his creative moniker, A Nameless Force, Williams moved between snowboarding, board graphics, event management, industrial design and video production during the sport’s domestic boom throughout the late 1990s & early 2000’s.

After a serious back injury limited his time on the mountain, Williams redirected that energy into the art world. Today, he is recognised as a prominent Sydney graffiti artist and multidisciplinary creative, known for bringing a sharp, illustrative street-art style to murals, galleries and commercial projects.

Together, Vlandis and Williams have created SHREDFEST as a celebration of the people who built Australian snowboarding—not just the podiums and competitions.

Friday: Registration and Film Night

SHREDFEST begins at 5pm on Friday, 28 August, at Jindabyne Memorial Hall.

The opening Film Night will screen short films from every decade of Australian snowboarding, tracing the culture from its rough beginnings in the 1980s through to the riders and filmmakers pushing it forward today.

Grab a Philter, crack a non-alcoholic Heaps Normal, get into some snacks from Birchwood and settle in for a night of Australian snowboard history.

Everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be racing to attend.

Registered competitors will also receive their official event pass, lanyard, custom iron-on patches and stickers during Friday night’s check-in.

Saturday: Charlotte Pass Ride Day and Banked Slalom

On Saturday, SHREDFEST heads to Charlotte Pass for the official Ride Day and Banked Slalom.

The course has been built for good turns, good times and snowboarders from every generation. Riders will compete in the banked slalom pow-wow, with the overall winner taking home the Geoff Sawyer Perpetual Cup.

Competitors are encouraged to register as soon as possible through the SHREDFEST ticketing page via Charlotte Pass to secure their preferred oversnow transport time.

Sunday: Awards and Wrap-Up

The weekend concludes at midday on Sunday, 30 August, back at Jindabyne Memorial Hall.

The final gathering will feature category presentations, commemorative 40-year medals, stories from across the decades, plenty of laughs and a serious haul of sponsor lucky-door prizes for the shredders.

SHREDFEST is proudly supported by Systems Australia, Resort Outdoor, Philter, Oz Snow, XTM, Lib Tech, GNU, Black Flys, Vans, Fallen Broken Street, POW Boardstore, Balmoral Boards, Shednine, Kyneee, Frank 151, Ballistyx, Budd_e Supply Co, Rhythm, Super Hill Bomber, The Base Layer, SOUNDBOKS and Charlotte Pass.
