For the third year in a row, Red Bull has transformed the MSY terminal at the abandoned New Orleans airport into the “ultimate destination for park and street skateboarding” for their Terminal Takeover event.
Terminal Takeover consisted of 10 teams of skaters from across the country, each equipped with their own photographer and videographer. The event was held last week from April 14th to the 15th, giving the teams the full two days to skate their way through three newly built skate park areas in the terminal. The new features incorporated the baggage claim area with plenty of metal rails and ledges, a stretch of concourse with minor obstacles and benches, as well as the departure gate which includes a staircase among other complications.
The objective of the event is for teams to film and edit together their best clips from each new skating area, to then submit online for fans to vote on their favorite. The team that wins the most fan votes also win a $5,000 for the organization of their choosing.
The videos from this year’s competition will be coming to Red Bull’s website and open for fans to vote soon.
