After the wild success of Joker, Warner Bros. knew that a sequel was in play – Phoenix returns as the Joker, co-starring with Gaga playing Harley Quinn. The first Joker movie earned 11 total Oscar nominations (more than any other movie based on a comic character) and was the first R- rated movie to gross over $1 billion.
Joker: Folie a Deux, unlike other DC films, is set in its own universe apart from the typical DC Extended Universe. Producers say that the is slightly similar to the newest Batman movie, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, as it will be considered in the “DC Elseworlds” category. There will definitely be a difference in the Harley Quinn character; the full makeup photo that Phillips posted of Gaga show a very different costume from what we’ve seen before.
Earlier this week the crew wrapped up the filming of the sequel and director Todd Phillips shared two new photos of the stars in character thanking them and the crew for all their hard work. The film is expected to be a musical, but the actual storyline of the movie remains a mystery. Phillips and the production team are now officially off to the editing stages to prepare the film for its release date on October 4th, 2024.
