Annie & The Caldwells Bring Soul Back to the Spotlight with KCRW Los Angeles Show

On June 11th, Annie & The Caldwells delivered a breathtaking performance at Zebulon in Los Angeles, presented by KCRW and featuring special guest Moor Mother, plus DJ sets by Gabriels and Colored Craig (A Club Called Rhonda). The Mississippi-rooted, multi-generational family band gave a performance so emotionally rich and spiritually charged, it felt like a much-needed revival — one that lit up the room and filled every heart with soulful electricity.

As the world moves deeper into a new age shaped by technology and AI, the music of Annie & The Caldwells is a radiant reminder of our shared humanity. Their sound isn’t just nostalgic — it’s necessary. It’s a healing balm in a world overwhelmed by acceleration, a space to reconnect with the power of community, ancestry, struggle, and joy.

From Mississippi to the World: A Soul Revival fresh off the release of their acclaimed debut album Can’t Lose My (Soul), Annie & The Caldwells are taking their gospel-infused, disco-laced soul revival on the road. Their performance in LA was part of a growing wave of attention following sold-out shows across Europe, including a standout moment at London’s Church of Sound and a jaw-dropping set at Le Guess Who? festival in The Netherlands.

MOJO wrote:

“Their rhythm section (dad and two sons) would give the Family Stone a run for its money; the front line (mum and daughters) have unquenchable sass and spirituality.”

Released to critical acclaim, Can’t Lose My (Soul) blends gospel, funk, disco, and R&B into a modern parable of hope and healing. Produced by Ahmed Gallab (Sinkane), the album pulses with grooves made for both the dancefloor and the congregation.

“I Made It” now features a euphoric Musclecars remix — bridging house and gospel in perfect harmony.

The album’s remix legacy also includes Nicky Siano, legendary Studio 54 DJ, reimagining “Wrong (You Dropped a Bomb)” — his first remix in over a decade.

Formed by matriarch Annie Caldwell in West Point, Mississippi to keep her kids out of trouble, the group spans three generations and countless real-life stories building a family’s legacy of sound: Annie (vocals, founder) – also of the Staples Jr. Singers and owner of Caldwell Fashions, Joe (guitar, Annie’s husband of 50 years), Willie Jr. (bass) – forklift driver, Abel Aquarius (drums) – hospital transport driver, Anjessica (vocals) – insurance customer care rep, Toni (vocals, goddaughter) – elementary school teacher, and Deborah (vocals) – hair stylist.

Their day jobs may vary, but when they step on stage, they’re pure spirit. Whether you’re religious or not, Annie & The Caldwells deliver something holy.
