Myd Unlocks a New Era with Channel Tres, Trueno, and the Glittery Madness of ‘Mydnight’
French producer/DJ and unbothered genius Myd is entering a golden era—literally, kind of. His latest single, “All That Glitters Is Not Gold”, is a genre-bending collab with Compton’s own Channel Tres and Argentinian rap phenom Trueno that explodes with groove, swagger, and global energy, all wrapped up in Myd’s signature style: a little house, a little funk, and a lot of unfiltered charm. The result is a track that feels both polished and playful. It’s house, it’s hip-hop, it’s hypnotic.
Featured in his upcoming album Mydnight dropping August 29 via Ed Banger Records, the track marks another evolution in Myd’s wonderfully weird journey from French Touch disciple to globally-tapped culture conductor. Written between LA and Paris, the album is a kaleidoscopic swirl of club anthems, house melancholia, late-night introspection, and post-tour sunshine. It features vocal-heavy tracks with guests like Calcutta and Carlita, plus Myd himself on every song—no characters, no gimmicks, just dance music and raw emotion.
And it almost didn’t happen. Earlier this year, Myd famously lost his hard drive and nearly scrapped the entire project. In true Myd fashion, he responded not with despair but with a 24/7 Twitch livestream, locking himself in the studio with no phone, no distractions. “I had nothing left, no backup, just a deadline,” he told MusicTech. “So I invited friends and made something new.” Friends like Busy P and Bambounou, dropped in throughout the stream, turning his studio into a collaborative war room. At one point, the stream hit 90,000 live viewers, as fans tuned in to watch him frantically rebuild his album in real time—one synth line, one beer, one goofy smile at a time.
But that’s always been Myd’s superpower: vulnerability without ego. Whether he’s remixing Dua Lipa or Bootsy Collins, performing DJ sets at Hi Ibiza, composing the soundtrack for a movie, or being the only DJ at the 2024 Paralympic Opening Ceremonies in Paris, he never loses that core of approachable oddball energy. Even his breakout LP, Born A Loser, leaned hard into goofy existentialism—and it worked.

If you could curate your dream festival lineup with artists from any era, alive or dead, who are your top three headliners?
Moodymann back to back with Carl Craig. Elliott Smith at sunset. And Markobi, the world champion of magic, at 4am in a dark room. No phones, just silence and tracks. Each of them represents a different side of what I love in music and performance. The groove, the emotion, and the mystery.
Your music has that unmistakable disco vibe, and I can definitely hear shades of the French Touch in there. How would you describe your sound compared to your French DJ contemporaries?
I think I lean more into imperfection. A lot of my tracks come from happy accidents, or from sounds that feel a bit broken or raw. I bring in elements from folk and indie, even when I’m building a club track. Where some producers aim for clean and massive, I like to keep a bit of dirt and vulnerability in the mix. I come from songwriting as much as from DJ culture, and I think that shapes my approach.
French electronic music fans know the term French Touch, that signature groove that’s hard to explain but instantly recognizable. For someone who’s never heard it, how would you describe the essence of French Touch in your own words?
It’s about looping emotion until it becomes hypnotic. French Touch is soulful and dusty, like finding a disco record in your parents’ attic and playing it too loud. There’s elegance but also grit. It’s nostalgia transformed into movement. A track like Song For You has that DNA. It sounds intimate but still belongs in a club.

Let’s talk names. How did “Myd” come to be? Is there a story or meaning behind it?
My great-grandfather was a terrible marksman during World War I. The British soldiers he was stationed with started calling him “Mid” because he was always kind of in the middle. Not the best, not the worst. The nickname stuck in the family. When I started DJing, I used it on my USB keys and eventually just kept it. I changed the spelling but kept the spirit. It reminds me that you can make an impact without being perfect.
Your latest release, All That Glitters Is Not Gold, featuring Channel Tres and Argentine rapper Trueno, is pure sunshine. Funky, bouncy, and made for summer. What was the creative process like?
The track was already mostly written. I had this structure that felt open, like it was waiting for other voices. I wanted to invite artists who bring a solar energy, but not in the same way I do. Channel Tres has this deep calm, Trueno brings fire. Channel recorded at Motorbass Studio in Paris, which was special. It’s one of those mythic places in French music history. The process was collaborative in spirit even if not always in the same room.
You’ve been signed to Ed Banger Records, one of the most iconic French labels out there. Were there any artists from the label who inspired your sound early on? And beyond Ed Banger, who are some of your biggest musical influences, French or not?
Mr. Oizo was a big one. He made me realize you could make music that was both funky and completely off the rails. Justice showed that distortion could sound luxurious. Outside of Ed Banger, Caribou and Four Tet have always been inspirations for how they balance structure and emotion. Alain Souchon taught me how you can be poetic without being heavy. Todd Rundgren is another hero. He follows his own logic, and I love that.
You once locked yourself in the studio for a week while finishing Song For You and The Wizard. What inspired that creative isolation, and what did it do for the final tracks?
I needed to cut the noise and finish. So I did a full week in the studio, streamed the whole thing live. It created pressure but also momentum. I couldn’t hesitate. The process made the tracks more instinctive. There’s a kind of urgency in The Wizard that only exists because I didn’t allow myself to polish it too much. It was about trusting my gut and letting the music be what it wanted to be.
And finally, what’s on the horizon for Myd in 2025? Any upcoming releases, tours, or dream venues we should keep an eye out for?
My new album Mydnight is coming out at the end of August. It’s my most club-oriented project yet, but still very personal. I’ll be touring both with my DJ sets and a new version of my live show that’s more immersive and visual. Some very exciting dates are on the way. The goal this year is to push the energy further, connect more deeply with people, and keep surprising myself.
