With much anticipation, the official trailer for Martin Scorsese’s newest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, has finally been released.
The movie cast list is filled with stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Brendan Fraser, Lily Gladstone and many more. With DiCaprio and Gladstone in the main lead roles as Ernest and Mollie Burkhart, audiences everywhere will be pulled into the story right away.
The film is based on the non-fiction novel, Killers of the Flower Moon, by David Grann. Set in Oklahoma in the 1920s while oil is being discovered throughout the native Osage nation. This discovery quickly leads to turmoil in the city, with a string of serial murders and brutal crimes that would later be known as the Reign of Terror. The trailer has a consistent voice-over from DiCaprio, explaining some background and highlighting the movie’s overarching theme of greed by begging the question, “can you find the wolves?”
This will be Scorsese’s first film since 2018, when The Irishman was released. He and DiCaprio have allegedly been waiting to make Killers of the Flower Moon since 2017, but the global pandemic quickly delayed and ultimately halted the project for multiple years. In 2021, Apple TV+ picked up the movie, allowing production to resume with Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions.
With a $200 million budget, it is expected that audiences everywhere will be transported back to the 20s when watching the film. Killers of the Flower Moon premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this May, with critics seemingly impressed with the final product. The movie will debut to the public in select theaters beginning October 6th. Apple TV+ subscribers will be able to watch the film a mere 2 weeks later when it becomes available to stream on October 20th.
