Harlem’s own Jim Jones has weighed in on the latest legal setback for Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash. Dash was recently ordered by a New York judge to turn over assets — including his shares in Roc-A-Fella Records — to cover an $800,000 debt.
Jones, who came up under Dash’s wing during the peak of the Roc era, didn’t mince words. In a recent interview, he called Dame “a hustler through and through” but admitted the ruling highlights the unforgiving side of the music business. “Dame always taught us ownership is everything,” Jones said. “But when the courts get involved, even ownership gets tested.”
The decision adds another chapter to Dash’s turbulent financial journey. For Jones, though, it’s less about the downfall and more about the lessons: “At the end of the day, we learned the game from Dame. That’s forever.”
