In light of many new AI-generated songs being leaked across the internet, rapper Ice Cube has spoken up to call AI music “demonic” and to say that he would sue if he hears his voice on one of these fake tracks.
Many musicians have begun to speak about the AI-generated music and show their disapproval as it becomes increasingly more difficult to protect themselves and their work. Ice Cube was interviewed last week by Full Send where they discussed this topic in detail. The interviewers asked Ice Cube his opinions on “Heart On My Sleeve,” the AI-generated track leaked that was allegedly by Drake and The Weeknd. He answered with quick disdain for the situation, calling AI-generated songs “demonic,” and saying “I don’t wanna hear an AI Drake song. Yeah. I don’t wanna hear that bullshit. He should sue whoever made it.”
As the conversation continued, Ice Cube specified that if his voice is ever used to create AI music he would not hesitate to take legal action. He told the interviewer, “Imma sue the motherf***a who made it and the people and the platform who play it. It’s like a sample. Somebody can’t take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay . . . I think AI is demonic [and] I think AI is going to get a backlash from organic people.”
Ice Cube is one of the many artists who are concerned with the advancements in AI. There is no information on whether or not the music industry will be able to easily control the generation of AI music, but many musicians are very forward about their distaste for it.
