Sunday night, tragedy struck East Flatbush, Brooklyn as a father and son were shot dead in their apartment by their neighbor after a noise complaint.
Victims, 47-year-old Bladimy Mathurin and 27-year-old Chinwai Mode, were met by their frustrated neighbor at their apartment door, after the neighbor came to their unit to complain about the noise the family was making. Mathurin’s wife, Marie Delille, told reporters that her family has had words with the neighbor numerous times since moving into the building 4 years ago.
She said that the man constantly complained about the children being too loud, and said “this man hates us with every bone in his body.” Recounting the tragedy that struck her family this Sunday, Delille told reporters: “I was in the kitchen, doing dishes in the sink, I heard bang bang bang. I asked did anybody make noise? The kids be like, no mommy, nobody made noise. My husband banged back. The man came upstairs and kicked the door.”
The police say that Mathurin came into the altercation between his wife and the neighbor while wielding a pair of scissors, which was when the neighbor opened fire. Delille claims the police are incorrect about her husband’s approach with the man, saying “My husband had no gun, no weapon. Why did you bring a gun to shoot my family? Why would you bring a gun to tear my family apart? Why? Why?”
The neighbor shot both the father and son a total of 5 times. After both men were lying on the ground in their own blood, the neighbor seems to assess the scene all too calmly before taking the elevator to the ground floor and fleeing the scene. He has yet to be located by police.
Family and friends are left grieving and scared as the shooter is still at large, able to return at any point. Delille pleads for justice to be served as police continue the manhunt for the brutal shooter. Surveillance footage from the apartment building that shows the altercation and the shooting has been released. Police have identified the shooter based on this footage, but his name has not yet been released to the public.
