AIR performs alongside Phoenix during Closing Ceremony of 2024 Paris Summer Olympics Games
Currently performing on their world tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their iconic album Moon Safari, AIR (Jean Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin) were honored and delighted to accept the invitation from their longtime friends and equally iconic French band Phoenix to perform with them at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.
For the occasion and to pass the torch to the city of Los Angeles, they naturally chose to perform their song “Playground Love” taken from the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola’s film The Virgin Suicides (2000), sung at the time by a then-unknown Thomas Mars. A true emotional moment, this ode to adolescence rarely performed in concert by Air and Phoenix together, touched the hearts of everyone at the end of these magnificent Games.
The two groups perfectly embody that French style so admired abroad, known as La French Touch. Speaking on the honor they shared:
“It is such a thrill to share the stage with our friends Phoenix and perform “Playground Love” together in front of the eyes of the world. Thank you, Phoenix!”
Following the historic moment in their home country, AIR will close out the European leg of their world tour this month before launching their North American leg in September. With a number of their upcoming live dates already sold out, the pair will set out across North America with stops in Chicago, Toronto, New York, and Mexico City before heading to South America and Asia for a string of music festivals. Tickets are available for purchase here.

About Moon Safari:
AIR’s boundary-pushing album has long been praised for its innovative sonics that have inspired countless musicians to think outside the box, so much so that their influence even transcended their own medium. Since Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel formed the band in 1995, the prolific duo has released six albums in addition to their acclaimed EP Premiers Symptômes, which was followed by the release of the aforementioned classic Moon Safari along with two soundtracks that all together sold millions of copies. AIR garnered an extensive list of worldwide accolades for their unique brand of downtempo electronic music that not only sculpted the sound for the next generation of electronic-influenced pop music but also was able to withstand the test of time in its own right.
