Doja Cat took to Instagram yesterday to announce her new album, ‘Scarlet,’ will be released next month.
Doja posted the album cover art to her account with the caption “SCARLET 9.22,” keeping the news short and simple for her fans. The album art definitely speaks to some of the themes Doja has been dabbling in, displaying a large scarlet colored spider on the cover of the album. Recently the pop star has been posting some eerie themed images including new death- themed tattoos, like her recent scythe tattoo. So the spider with a drop of blood, or maybe venom, above it as the album cover is certainly on brand.
Staying true to her vibe as of late, Doja’s news of her next album also came with a horror-like trailer of a single from the album. The single, “Demons,” is set to release this Friday, September 1st. The trailer can be found on Doja Cat’s website, where you can listen to the new single and watch Doja as she terrorizes someone who isn’t her fans.
In the trailer we see the original Wednesday Addams, Christina Ricci in the role of a suburban homeowner being haunted by a household demon, otherwise known as Doja Cat. “Demons” will be fans third early look into the ‘Scarlet’ album, after the releases of “Attention” and “Paint the Town Red.”
Doja has been surrounded by some controversy after borderline bullying her own fans on social media. After fans began to call themselves “kittenz,” the pop star replied on social media fighting with them over the nickname. After losing over 250,000 followers on social media, she told her remaining followers that “it feels like I can reconnect with the people who really matter and love me for who I am and not for who I was. I feel free.”
You can watch the trailer for “Demons” on YouTube here. Keep your eyes peeled for the new album, ‘Scarlet’ releasing September 22nd.
