New York has never needed much of an excuse to turn food into culture. This September, the city’s most dependable breakfast combination gets its own festival as LOXFEST takes over Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport.
Returning for its second year on September 19, LOXFEST is a one-day celebration of bagels, smoked fish, cream cheese and the institutions that have helped make the combination part of New York identity. Presented by Fulton Fish Market and co-produced by Bucket Listers and nexwrk, the festival brings together some of the city’s bagel shops, delis and food makers for a waterfront session built around one very specific obsession.
The 2026 lineup includes Greenberg’s Bagels, Casa Cugine, Peck Slip Social, 19 Cleveland and Paris Cafe, with more vendors expected to join. Guests can work their way through lox-focused tastings, samples, giveaways and specialty offerings while taking in live music and the South Street Seaport backdrop.
There’s something particularly fitting about bringing the event to this part of Manhattan. The South Street Seaport has a long relationship with New York’s seafood trade, with the Fulton Fish Market operating on the waterfront for generations before its wholesale operation eventually moved to Hunts Point in the Bronx. LOXFEST effectively brings that history back to the neighbourhood, only now with a bagel in one hand and a waterfront view in the other.
Running across two sessions, from 10am–12:30pm and 1pm–3:30pm, LOXFEST is less about reinventing the bagel-and-lox combination than celebrating why New York became synonymous with it in the first place. The city has always been good at taking everyday food and turning it into a statement of place, identity and attitude.
And if there’s one thing New York does particularly well, it’s knowing when something deserves a festival.
