The wave itself isn’t the biggest, baddest slab ever to detonate in the tropics — but getting there is a whole different kind of violence. The entry is pure commitment: a dry, exposed reef shelf knifing out of the water like it’s waiting to collect bones.
The reef isn’t just sharp (booties mandatory), it’s warped and broken, riddled with holes and dead-space caverns — some dropping 20 feet deep, according to Nathan. First session out there, he barely made it to the lineup through what he called a “highly disturbing” keyhole.
And somehow Daniel Russo — filmer, partner in crime — managed to swim out behind him carrying a massive camera housing, no flotation, no safety net… and came out untouched.
Just two guys threading needles through a reef that doesn’t forgive mistakes.
