Happy Birthday to Madvillainy

Regarded as one of the best hip-hop albums ever made, let’s say happy birthday to “Madvillainy,” which combined the unparalleled talents of Madlib and rapper MF DOOM. The only studio album between the two was released by Stones Throw Records on March 23, 2004.

From appearing on the US Billboard 200 to The New Yorker, Madvillainy is considered Doom’s magnum opus. With Madlib’s chopped-up jazz samples and Doom’s storytelling talent that allowed listeners to connect with the “villains and their dastardly doings,” it’s a digestible piece of work consisting of equal parts genius and madness.

Both possessing a forward-thinking attitude and a traditional tie to hip-hop roots, we can thank the paper plate floating around somewhere that had Doom’s contract to Stones Throw Records signed on it.
