Tommy Hilfiger has released a new capsule collection through TOMMY JEAN in collaboration with Keith Haring, to bring the designer and artist’s shared passions of making fashion and art more accessible in New York in the 1980’s.
The capsule will have 30 different pieces including menswear, womenswear and novelties, all featuring famous Haring art. The pieces in the collection mostly sport a relaxed fit with uses of different techniques like garment-dying, sun-bleaching and fading treatments. Two of the larger pieces include an American fit denim jacket, which has Haring’s iconic figures dancing across it in patchwork style, and a wool varsity jacket, which shows off Haring’s dancing dogs as well as his famous heart face.
Also included in the collection are t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, and more. A matching set, including a tank top and shorts, are adorned with invitations to an exhibition of Haring’s in 1991 at Westbeth Paint’s Space. Nine different t-shirts that grace the collection sport Polaroid images of Haring himself throughout different points of his career.
Tommy Hilfiger spoke to the importance of the collaboration. He said “Keith Haring is a New York icon and represents the city’s creative spirit. We shared commitment to inclusivity, self- expression and spreading optimism. This collection channels positivity and brings Keith’s unmistakable energy to modern-day prep.”
The capsule collection is also meant to celebrate the new ‘Art Is For Everybody’ exhibition. The exhibition will house over 120 pieces of Haring’s art at The Broad in Los Angeles from May 27th to October 28th.
The TOMMY JEAN x Keith Haring capsule collection is available now through the Tommy Hilfiger website and in stores.
