Just over a year after the famous Johnny Depp v Amber Heard defamation trial ended, Netflix has released an official trailer to announce their upcoming docuseries, Depp v. Heard.
The producer of Netflix’s The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: the Unheard Tapes, Emma Cooper, is directing the new Depp v. Heard series. The docuseries official synopsis says: “Depp v. Heard examines the infamous defamation case that captured the world’s attention as the first Trial by TikTok and questions the nature of truth and the role it plays in our modern society.”
According to the synopsis, the series will take a deep dive into the effects the trial had on the public more so than the effects it ultimately had on either Depp or Heard. Due to the trial being entirely televised, the trial had turned into a court of public opinion. Depp v. Heard will dive into how much social media and public opinion effected the trial, as well as why the public was so captivated by it.
Depp v. Heard has a set release date of August 16th on Netflix. You can watch the official trailer for the docuseries here.
