Framework’s New Era: Solomun Christens Reframe Studios as Underground House and Techno Find a New LA Home

By Eric Budianto Thornton

Two weeks ago, on a rather cold November night in Atwater Village, Framework closed out their 2025 outdoor season in spectacular fashion. The occasion? Bosnian-German house music legend Solomun graced the brand-new grounds of Reframe Studios for the very first time. And what a way to inaugurate the venue.

For those unfamiliar with Solomun—born Mladen Solomun in 1975 in Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, he’s been a pillar of the underground house and techno scene for nearly two decades. After relocating to Hamburg, Germany as a child, Solomun worked in construction with his father before discovering his passion for film, and eventually, music. By 16, he was DJing at Hamburg’s House of Youth, spinning for other teenagers. At 23, he began producing, and in 2005, he founded the influential Diynamic label alongside Adriano Trolio.

His 2011 remix of Noir & Haze’s “Around” was dubbed Remix of the Year by Resident Advisor, and by 2012, he was named Mixmag’s DJ of the Year. Known for his melodic, emotive tech-house sound, Solomun has become synonymous with marathon sets that take listeners on a journey, a reputation he’s upheld at countless residencies in Ibiza and festivals worldwide.

Just a week before the Solomun show, Framework and Goldenvoice delivered another knockout performance at the Shrine Expo Hall with Layton Giordani and Green Velvet going back-to-back on November 21. The energy that night was absolutely electric. These two techno heavyweights fed off each other perfectly, dropping relentless bangers like their collaboration “When It Kicks” alongside Green Velvet classics such as “Lazer Beams” and his iconic track with Chris Lake, “Deceiver.”

What made this show truly spectacular was the laser display, it felt like every single drop was punctuated by perfectly synchronized beams cutting through the smoke-filled hall. The Shrine provided the perfect industrial backdrop for their hard-hitting techno sound, and Framework’s production once again proved why they’re masters at creating immersive underground experiences.

A Night Under the Stars (and the Cold)

The Reframe Studios show marked Framework’s first event at this Atwater Village location, a sprawling soundstage that will soon become the home of their ambitious new indoor series. Originally planned to be held outside, the show underwent several location changes, first moving indoors (which had me hoping for a Yuma tent-style experience), then ultimately settling back outdoors. While the decision to keep it outside meant braving the chilly LA night, it proved to be the right call. The outdoor space allowed for greater capacity, and there’s something undeniably special about dancing under the open sky to Solomun’s hypnotic beats.

True to form, Solomun delivered a set that stretched well beyond three hours, weaving together deep, pulsating basslines with euphoric melodies that had the crowd locked in from start to finish. The venue itself felt comfy and intimate despite its size, with Framework once again demonstrating why they’re considered the gold standard for underground events in Los Angeles. The production was top-notch, lighting and sound perfectly calibrated to create that signature underground feel Framework is known for.

This was my fourth time catching Solomun at a Framework event, and each one has been memorable in its own right. The first was at the Palladium, followed by a stellar outdoor performance at Shrine Outdoors. The third was that legendary show at Exposition Park—the one that was originally supposed to be held at an abandoned power plant near Oxnard

When local officials pulled the plug on that venue, Framework pulled off a remarkable feat, recreating the industrial aesthetic at Exposition Park, complete with a stage modeled after the actual power plant. Now, this latest show at Reframe Studios adds another chapter to what’s been a nearly decade-long partnership between Solomun and Framework.

Speaking of which, I’m still kicking myself for missing Mochakk’s rescheduled show on December 13, which was supposed to be held back in November, but postponed due to the storm. That Brazilian techno favorite always brings the heat, and Framework had another stellar production planned for that one.

Enter re:frame: A New Chapter for LA’s Underground

But enough dwelling on what could have been. Let’s talk about what’s coming, because Framework isn’t slowing down. Beginning January 16, 2026, they’re launching re:frame, an ambitious new indoor series at the same Reframe Studios location. And if you thought the outdoor space was impressive, wait until you see what they have planned for the indoors.

The state-of-the-art soundstage will be transformed into a large-scale nightclub experience, complete with custom-built audio and visual production, air conditioning , and ample street parking. Think of it as Framework’s answer to creating a massive warehouse-style club with all the underground energy of Berlin’s Berghain but with the polish and production values LA is known for.

The inaugural season lineup reads like a who’s who of underground house and techno. Let’s break it down:

January 16 – MK (Grand Opening): The Detroit house legend kicks things off. MK, aka Marc Kinchen, has been a fixture in the house music scene since the early ’90s, known for his deep, soulful sound and iconic remixes. His Billboard-charting hit “17” proved he could bridge the underground with mainstream appeal without losing his edge. Jaden Thompson will provide support. Get tickets here.

January 24 – Mind Against: The Italian duo brings their signature swirling techno to the dancefloor. Known for their melodic yet driving sound, Alessandro and Federico Fognini have been staples of Tale of Us’s Afterlife label. Support comes from Enamour, whose progressive house stylings should pair perfectly. Get tickets here.

January 30 & 31 – Disco Dom / Dombresky: French producer Dombresky pulls double duty across two nights, first appearing as his disco-focused alter ego Disco Dom on Friday, then returning Saturday under his primary alias. His funky, Miami-inspired house sound, check out tracks like “Down Low“, has made him a festival favorite worldwide. Maesic and Fallon provide support on their respective nights. Get tickets for Disco Dom and Dombresky.

February 6 – CamelPhat: The British duo brings their acclaimed Experience show to re:frame. After covering their excellent Spiritual Milk album and catching their marathon set at Pershing Square, I can attest that CamelPhat knows how to work a crowd. Their deep, melodic house sound—perfected on hits like “Cola” with Elderbrook, translates beautifully to both festival stages and intimate club settings. Kotier provides support. Get tickets here.

February 7 – The Martinez Brothers: The Bronx-born brothers present their Orbita concept with support from Bontan. Known for their infectious energy and genre-spanning sets that blend house, techno, and everything in between, The Martinez Brothers have been pushing boundaries for over a decade. This is sure to be one of the hottest tickets of the series. Get tickets here.

February 13 – Jan Blomqvist: The Berlin-based producer and vocalist closes out the announced dates with his unique blend of melodic techno and live performance. Blomqvist’s emotive productions and captivating stage presence make for unforgettable shows. Maxi Meraki b2b Nico De Andrea and Yulia Niko round out the bill. Get tickets here.

Looking Ahead

Framework has spent over a decade transforming Los Angeles’ dance music landscape, from their flagship venue Sound Nightclub to their partnerships with Goldenvoice on Coachella’s Yuma tent. With re:frame, they’re not just adding another venue to their portfolio, they’re creating a destination that could redefine what large-scale underground experiences look like in Los Angeles.

While I’m curious to see how the indoor space compares to the outdoor experience we had with Solomun, I have no doubt Framework will deliver something special. The lasers and lighting in a controlled environment should be absolutely stunning, and the club vibe they’re promising feels perfectly suited to the marathon sets these artists are known for.
