Burna Boy continues to make his mark on the music industry, becoming the first African artist to sell out a U.S. stadium show this weekend at Citi Field in Queens, NY with a full attendance of over 41,000 people.
Over the last year or so, Burna Boy has been on the rise. Last year in April of 2022, he was the first Nigerian artist to headline at Madison Square Garden. Just months after that performance, he released a top charting album, Love, Damini. Love, Damini went on to set another record as the highest charting debut of an African album on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also earned Burna Boy a nomination for Best Global Music Album at the GRAMMYS.
At his record-breaking performance over the weekend, all 41,800 seats of Citi Field were filled with adoring fans. The star performed pieces from his four most recent albums, which include Love, Damini, Twice as Tall, African Giant, and Outside. Burna Boy gave fans a surprise when he brought his sister on stage for his opening set. British rapper, Dave (aka Santan Dave), also joined Burna Boy on stage to perform their popular collaboration “Location.”
With his continued rise in popularity and fame, it is no surprise that Burna Boy has been setting records. Burna Boy currently only has two shows left in his tour, one in the Czech Republic and one in Sweden. After having sold out Citi Field, it is very likely that the artist will be hitting the U.S. again soon.
