Tim Burton and Warner Bros. have finally answered fans pleads and announced the creation of Beetlejuice 2.
Fans have been speculating about and asking for a sequel since the original film premiered in 1988; luckily fans won’t have to wait terribly longer, because Beetlejuice 2 is allegedly beginning filming this week and set to release in September of 2024.
Original stars Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton will be returning to Beetlejuice 2 along with newcomers Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux. No information about the plot of the sequel has been released, so it is unknown whether it will follow suit of the original. The original Beetlejuice brought in $74.7 million at the box office and led to the wildly popular musical version.
Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton have both made comments hinting towards a Beetlejuice sequel throughout the years. Around 2013, both Keaton and Tim Burton hinted at the creation of Beetlejuice 2. A few years later in 2016, Ryder also told reporters that a sequel “would be great if it happened,” but still with nothing coming to fruition.
It does not seem as though the movie is expecting to be delayed by the current writers’ strike; there have been no hints of any production delays thus far. For now, Beetlejuice 2 is set to premiere in theaters on September 6th of 2024.
