Yesterday afternoon, police recovered a body believed to be Rachel Morin, who was reported missing on Saturday after not returning home from a hike at the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air, MD.
37-year-old Morin was last seen leaving her home in workout clothing on Saturday around 6 PM to head to the trails. After she did not come home, her boyfriend, Richard Tobin, called the police to report her missing and gave them the correct location of her car. Harford Country Sheriff, Jeff Gahler, told reporters that police received a 911 call around 1PM on Sunday reporting a woman’s body near the trail.
Sheriff Gahler, keeping the gruesome details out of the press, said “I’m not going to go into what, physically, they observed at the scene. But investigators believe sadly that it’s a homicide case.” Police believe that the body found near the trail is that of Rachel Morin, however they are still waiting for the medical examiner to confirm. The police currently have no suspects in the mother-of-5’s death, although the internet seems to have an idea.
Morin’s boyfriend, Richard Tobin, has a long history with law enforcement. According to court records, he has been arrested for malicious destruction of property, drug possession, violating restraining orders, and twice for criminal second-degree assault. Tobin also has 20 charges against him in the state of Maryland alone, including resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication.
After her death, Tobin utilized his platform on Facebook to make a comment under his recent relationship status change with Morin. He told his friends: “I love Rachel, I would never do anything to hurt her, let the family and I grieve. Yes I have a past but I also have 15 months clean and have changed as a person. Please.” Nearly 500 comments have surfaced on the couple’s relationship status post since Morin’s death. Some speculate that Tobin was involved in Morin’s death, and others have expressed their sympathy for Tobin, maintaining that he is innocent until proven guilty.
The police are still saying that Tobin is not a suspect in their investigation and he has been cooperating with authorities since Morin’s disappearance. Rachel Morin’s sister, Rebekah Morin, started a GoFundMe for the family to help cover funeral expenses. In the GoFundMe description Rebekah wrote: “This was not an accidental death, she did not go willingly and she deserves a funeral worthy of her beauty.”
