This August, Run DMC, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube and more will come together at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary.
On the exact anniversary of DJ Kool Herc’s first hip-hop concert ever in 1520 Sedgwick Avenue’s “Rec Room,” Hip Hop 50 Live will take place on August 11th in Yankee Stadium with a star-studded lineup. The headliners are Run DMC’s Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and may just be the last live show that Run DMC performs. In January, McDaniels said that the group’s show in April at Madison Square Garden would be their last. Despite that initial statement being incorrect, it is also fair to assume that headlining the 50th anniversary of hip-hop concert would be a proper send off for the iconic group.
The concert will feature a number of performers by including specialized sets. “Queens of Hip Hop” will feature Eve, Lil Kim, Remy Ma and Trina. “Pillars of Hip Hop” set will pay homage to the pioneers of hip-hop, such as DJ Kool Herc & Cindy Campbell, Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, Roxanne Shante, Scorpio, The Sugarhill Gang, and more. There will also be a “Legendary DJ Sets” section of the concert, which is set to include Battlecat, Clark Kent, Mannie Fresh and Marley Marl.
Aside from the specialized sets, live performers also include Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, T.I., Fat Joe, Common, A$AP Ferg, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco, Slick Rick, and more surprise artists.
Tickets will go up for presale this Thursday, June 8th, followed by the general sale this Friday, June 9th at 10:00 AM EST.
