YNW Melly continues to dig himself a deeper hole as he faces 6 new charges in his current witness tampering case.
Since being accused of conspiracy to kill two of his friends, YNW Melly has continued to get into trouble. In 2018, Christopher Thomas Jr. and Anthony Williams – otherwise known as YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser, were both killed in a drive-by shooting. Just months ago, YNW Melly’s double murder trial for the Thomas and Williams ended in a mistrial after a three-day jury deliberation ended in a stand-still.
Earlier this month, YNW Melly and his co-defendant YNW Bortlen were charged with tampering with a witness involved in a capital felony case. Most recently, Melly, Bortlen, and a third person, Terrence Mathis, were all charged for directing criminal gang activity, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, along with solicitation and conspiracy to commit witness tampering.
Prosecutors claim that Terrence Mathis helped Melly to convince Mariah Hamilton and Felicia Holmes, Melly’s ex-girlfriend and her mother, not to testify in his double murder trial. Mathis is currently an inmate at Broward County Jail, but was out on bond when the tampering allegedly occurred. The prosecutors allege that Bortlen and Mathis each had 60 phone calls between March and August of this year using code language to hide their true conversation.
Despite Melly having been on 23/1 lockdown inside the Broward County Jail with his phone privileges restricted for a majority of 2023, prosecutors believe that Bortlen and Mathis helped Melly to contact the witnesses and convince them not to testify.
With 6 new charges added to the list and jury selection beginning this week, YNW Melly’s trial should be resuming shortly.
