In 1971 an estimated one thousand people attended the first Chicano Park Day in San Diego, California. Activists, residents of Barrio Logan, and supporters gathered  to honor the one year anniversary of the founding of the neighborhood’s sanctuary on April 22, 1970. Chicano Park Day has since grown into a cultural festival, representing a united community, as well as the fight that many neighborhoods take on to preserve their identity and traditions.
